Search Tools for Searching Multiple Journals
These allow the user to search for particular on-line journals or to search a database
of journals for a particular topic, keyword, author or article.

Large database of papers (only available to UK academic comunity)

This service is run by the Institute of Physics. It costs about £20,000 a year to join.
There is a demo for the year 1997. Includes INSPEC and other databases

- Ingenta
Commercial equivalent of the academic BIDS service. The number of journals is currently
somewhat limited, but the search is free and you get both title and abstract.
- INIST
A French based service with free searching and display of the article title. The English
search page can be found here.
- STNEasy
This is a pay-as-you-search site. The payment for a basic search is 3.3DM (about 1 pound)
and to view the title is free, but other information will cost varying amounts depending
on the database you get your information from. The pricing information is given here. The number of
journals/articles that are searched is very large.
Publisher Specific Search Tools
- Elsevier
Search all the elsevier journals.
Subscribers can access the full text of
published papers. Unregistered users can search abstracts and retrieve
titles and authors. They also provide a free contents alert service of current journals.
- Institute of Physics
IOP members can access 3 journals each and download 10 articles each month from IOP
journals. Subscribers can access the full text of the journals.
- World Scientific Publishing
Company
Free access (whole text) to many journals including International Journal of Modern
Physics (A-E), Journal of Nonlinear Optical Physics and Materials, Modern Physics Letters
(A-B), Reviews in Mathematical Physics and Surface Review and Letters.

Members can access the full text of the journals, all users can search the contents list.
- Wiley
Interscience
Subscribers can access the full text of articles in Wiley journals, guest users can access
table of contents and abstracts for articles published in the preceeding year.

Tables of contents can be viewed online
Electronic Pre-Print Archives
These normally have the full text of a paper in a variety of formats and are updated daily

Open Access Online Journals
These journals appear in full on the internet and allow all users open access to the full text of articles
Restricted Access Online Journals
Subscribers can access the full text of the journals, unregistered users can generally
access the table of contents, titles and (in some cases) the abstract.
