"Surface Analysis in the Global Economy: an Irish Perspective"
Park Hotel & Spa, Midleton, County Cork,
Ireland
Hosted by Dow Corning Plasma Solutions
Friday 7th July 2006
The influx to Ireland of high technology businesses, from start-up companies to multi-national giants, has been a major success story over the past two decades. This economic growth would not have been possible without excellent supporting infrastructure, including the surface analysis expertise and facilities to be found in Irish universities and research establishments.
This UKSAF Meeting will give an up-to-date overview of the many application areas for surface analysis in Ireland (for example in pharmaceuticals, medical devices and microelectronics), with speakers from both academia and industry.
The Meeting will also feature the 2006 Young Surface Analyst of the Year Competition. The format will be similar to previous years, with abstracts to be submitted by 30 April 2006. The six best candidates will then be invited to give a poster and concise oral presentation of their work at the Meeting. The two best presentations will receive the Seah Award (£250) and Castle Award (£150); all short-listed candidates will have the Meeting fee waived and will receive an additional contribution of up to £100 towards their travel expenses.
Please note that the Meeting is being held on a Friday rather than the usual Wednesday. If there is sufficient interest, a tour of the nearby Jameson Whiskey Distillery will be organized for the Thursday evening.
The cost of the meeting registration is £55 (if paid by 30th June 2006). Accomodation and travel information can be found here.
