Dr Cruise, Shell Thornton Research Laboratories

Dr Cruise from the Thornton Laboratories, thanked everyone for coming to the meeting, and recalled the previous ESCA Users meeting held at Shell over 15 years ago. Two of the current members attended that previous meeting Dr RK Wild and Dr R Bulpett. The Shell Laboratories have recently been through a major refurbishment the work of the analytical department has also been changed. The labs are now part of Shell global solutions and do work for the outside companies as well as Shell. However, Shell is still committed to research as a key tool in development new and safer industrial products. The theme of the meeting is based around the research approach adopted by Shell, where a host of analytical methods are applied to any given problem.
