"Annual General Meeting of The UK Surface Analysis Forum"

Dr Bob Wild thanked everyone for the talks and the demonstrations throughout the year, which have all been of the highest standard and ensured the groups continuing success. Dr Wild also announced that this would be his last year as chairman, he would n’t be standing for election next July.

Dr Kathy England gave a brief report on the groups accounts, which are as ever in very good order, and had just been audited. There were no questions on the balance sheet, which still shows a £5000 surplus even given the groups support of ISO 201.

The elections of the non- executive officers were uncontested with Dr Martin Seah, Dr Graham Smith, Dr Simon Morton and Dr Keith Hallam re-elected to the UK ESCA Users committee.

The main item on the Agenda at the AGM, was the proposed merger of the UK Surface Analysis Forum and the SIMS Users Forum. Most delegates though that this was a good idea, the main point of discussion was the name of the proposed new group!

The initial proposal was to merge the two groups by July 2000. There were no objections to this proposal, although delegates were concerned about the finances of the SIMS Users forum. Dr David Sykes, Chairman of the SIMS Users Forum, assured the delegates that the finances of the SIMS Users Forum were very stable, and the group had no outstanding debts.
