IPES - Inverse Photoemission Spectroscopy or
BIS - Bremsstrahlung Isochromat Spectroscopy
This technique provides information on the empty density of states
above the Fermi level. A beam of electrons is directed at the sample and the light
emission is measured. The cross-section for the process is very weak leading to long data
collection times. The technique can be 'k-resolved' and spin polarised leading to the
acronyms KRIPES and SPIPES.
