PAES - Positron Annihilation Auger Electron Spectroscopy

Positrons are directed at the sample surface. Some of the positrons will annihilate with core electrons of atoms in the sample. Hence a core hole will be generated, and the atom may relax via the Auger process (see AES). PAES is more surface sensitive than AES and does not suffer from the large secondary electron background.
